Welcome

This website is a mish mash of stuff that goes on in my life. I write it primarily for myself as a way of documenting and learning. If others benefit from it in any way that's great. View the categories to see the kind of areas I'm interested in and by all means contact me, I love hearing from people.

TechEd / MSP talk, IT Sligo.

Posted by: admin | Comments (0)

The talk went well today. Nice mixture of both students and lecturers turned up and it was wonderful to get the experience of speaking to a group like that.  I hope to eventually end up lecturing in some capacity or other and so I really did value the opportunity to cut my teeth so to speak.

I covered all areas promised, TechEd itself, The key technologies that I looked at during TechEd week and some that I didn’t. Then I went on to speak about the Microsoft student partner programme (MSP), what it is, what it means, what it’s all about etc. I finished up by talking about opportunities at MS for graduates.

Really I guess it was three talks in one and in an ideal world I would have split them up. But people are busy and have commitments so I condensed as much into this as possible. One talk is better than no talk.

I have uploaded my slides to Skydrive, you can download them here.

As the rally leaves

Posted by: admin | Comments (0)

I walked out of the college on Thursday and I kid you not, there was 7 (that I counted) helicopters in the air with another 3 hovering at about 10 feet on the GAA pitch. Whichever way you look at it, it was dam exciting and the noise was huge.

Our college as you may or may not know, was the base for the rally, all the garages and teams were set up there and so we had wonderful access all week to walk around and see the spectacle. The Citroen and Subaru garages were sights to behold, Their catering tents alone were impressive.

It’s a great feeling to be walking into the college of a morning and on your was you pass a Citoren rally car with Loeb/Elana written on the side. I’d love to have taken a few pictures but I kept forgetting my camera. Never mind, there will be a glut of pics all over the web. Here is a good a place to start as any – http://www.rallyireland.org

Present arms

Posted by: admin | Comments (0)

Now that I am back at school (boy have I some serious catching up to do), I have spoken to one or two lecturers and we agree that it would be most beneficial to do a quick presentation to some students and some of the lecturers on the whole TechEd experience. I plan to put together a quick slide or two about TechEd, Microsoft, where they are going in terms of future technologies and policies, and perhaps talk about some of the cool (wow factor) experiences and demos I saw last week. I’ll keep you posted as to who this goes, may try and get a snap or two also.

The day after the week before

Posted by: admin | Comments (0)

and so for me TechEd is all over. It’s saturday afternoon and time to reflect and catch up on some normality. Was a great week and I’m grateful for it. So what now, lets see . . . .tap tap tap; laundry, vacuuming, feed the dog, get the fire lit. aah its good to be home.
I gotta get back into study mode now also. We have an essay to write on organizational culture. I had done a bit of research in the library the week before Barcelona so I’d better get started on that.
